Team Las Marismas had a nice start to the circuit with the Gold Coast Opener dressage competition held January 18-20. The high scores of the weekend included sixth place with 63.7% for Yvonne and Lando Lee, her 9-year old chestnut stallion by Cocktail out of a Doruto dam, in Prix St. Georges. Georgie finished on 60% with his new 12-year-old gelding Hulster while Yvonne finished with 65% for fourth place with Diana Ramos' new mount Arabella, a stunning twelve-year-old chestnut Dutch mare, by Blanc Rivage xx out of a Roemer dam in Fourth Level. In Second Level Yvonne was fifth with 63% riding Donaldson, Las Marismas six-year-old Donnerhall gelding.

With Las Marismas' arrangement with Brenden Keon Stables in Elmpt, Germany, finishing at the end of 2001, our Grand Prix jumpers Littus Las Marismas and Ludwig Las Marismas, as well as a string of promising young horses, have been relocated to Stal Hendrix in Baarlo, Netherlands. As of January 1, 2002, Stal Hendrix riders, including Emile Hendrix and Luc Steeghs, have taken over the ride from Brenden Keon. They will be campaigning Littus and Ludwig at various competitions on the European show jumping circuit and assisting with the development and sale of Las Marismas' young horses.

By January 7 all of Las Marismas' competition horses from both Holland and our training facility in Dominican Republic had arrived in Florida for the winter dressage and show jumping circuits taking place at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington. While the horses spent a week in quarantine, Yvonne Losos de Muniz and Las Marismas' superb grooms, Spanish-speaking Ismail and German-speaking Karen, prepared the horses' "home away from home". Meanwhile Georgie Fernandez spent a week training at Diederick Wigmans' barn in the Netherlands before joining the rest of the team in Florida on January 15.

Once the horses were out of quarantine, Yvonne was ready to start her show jumping training with US Olympic Team member Laura Kraut and Laura's assistant rider and trainer, Canadian Equestrian Team member Jonathon Millar, son of seven-time Olympian Ian Millar.

A total of eight horses from Las Marismas will be competing at the 2002 Winter Equestrian Festival in West Palm Beach, Florida. Flying from Europe on December 29, 2001, Arabella and Ainsley's Inatana arrived first with Audi's Jilou and Maretty arriving two days later. Four additional Las Marismas horses from Dominican Republic joined them in Florida on January 4, 2002.
